Barrett, an American company specializing in developing and producing sniper rifles, announced that it had won a tender from the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (NDMA) to supply hundreds of M107A1 sniper rifles to the Norwegian army. These rifles will replace the Barrett-manufactured 82A1 sniper rifles, which have been in service with the Norwegian Army since 1999.

According to Barrett, the M107A1, chambered in .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun), represents a significant upgrade from the Model 82A1. The new system offers reduced weight, enhanced performance, greater durability, and modern features to meet the evolving demands of contemporary warfare. The M107A1 is also suppressor-capable, allowing for a reduced signature in various operational environments.
