German Army Selects Heckler & Koch's MR308A6 for Special Forces Sniper Rifle Contract
About 500 of these short-range semi-automatic rifles will be delivered in 2025 to German army units
Heckler & Koch will supply the German army with approximately 500 short-range semi-automatic sniper rifles of the MR308A6 type (designated G210 by the German army) for the army's special units, with delivery planned for 2025. The G210 is a 7.62x51 mm caliber rifle, weighing 4.4 kg without a magazine and featuring a barrel length of 16.75 inches.
Alongside the rifle purchase, the German army has already equipped these rifles with accessories such as a Schmidt & Bender scope, believed to be a variant of the 5-20x50 PM II Ultra Short, an Ase Utra BoreLock muzzle brake, and an Ase Utra Dual762-BL suppressor.
According to the German website Hartpunkt, the G210 procurement came down to a final competition between Heckler & Koch's MR308A6 and the AR10 platform from the U.S. manufacturer Geissele, with the MR308A6 ultimately prevailing. Weapons from German manufacturer CG Haenel and Colt Canada were also contenders in earlier stages of the tender.
