Report: Lithuania Allocates Millions to Ukraine, Includes Israeli RADA Radars

Lithuania has announced the allocation of €35 million for the purchase of radars and mine-clearing equipment for Ukraine, alongside plans to supply over 5,000 drones

Lithuania has announced the allocation of €35 million for the purchase of radars and mine-clearing equipment for Ukraine, along with plans to supply over 5,000 Lithuanian-made drones by the end of this fall. Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced at a press conference last Saturday.

"In our meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, I informed him that Lithuania's latest military aid package will arrive in Ukraine at the beginning of September," Šimonytė said in a report by interfax.com.ua. "The package will include 10 short-range air defense systems, 30 anti-drone missiles, as well as additional equipment, weapons, and ammunition. Additionally, we are allocating €35 million for the purchase of radars and mine-clearing equipment."

Šimonytė also stated that the Lithuanian government is committed to providing defensive and security assistance to Ukraine annually. "My government will not only fulfill this commitment but will exceed it. I hope that even after the October elections, the new government will maintain this commitment."

The Prime Minister also announced a new aid package for the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy industry, alongside continued support for the country's recovery, with an emphasis on education and healthcare.

"In Borodyanka, another kindergarten restored with Lithuania's assistance opened today and is ready to welcome Ukrainian children," Šimonytė said. "In response to President Zelenskyy's request, we will also assist in the reconstruction of three hospitals in the Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv regions."

According to a report by lrt.lt, Lithuania purchased radars made by Israel's RADA for €13.5 million in late May to "contribute to the Germany-led air defense coalition for Ukraine." This order is part of the current aid package approved in May, with delivery expected between September and the end of this year. This is the second batch of RADA radars Lithuania has purchased for Ukraine in the past two years.

According to publications in Ukraine, these are RADA ieMHR radars capable of providing alerts at ranges of up to 12 kilometers. "Target detection with a radar cross-section of 0.005 square meters at a distance of up to 10 kilometers," according to a mil.in.ua publication.

Recently, Israeli media reported that RADA radars already installed in Ukraine from previous batches have become targets for the Russian military. Russian-language Telegram groups have posted videos documenting the destruction of such radar positions using Russian Lancet attack drones. Another video from a different date can be found here.

According to reports in those groups, the first batch transferred from Lithuania to Ukraine about a year ago included at least 16 such radars. They are used to detect drones and to destroy Russian artillery batteries. No official Israeli source has commented on these reports.
