Israel’s Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, is on a brief one-day visit to Turkey – the first one held by an Israeli MoD in over a decade. During this visit, the defense relations between both countries will be officially restored.
Originally, it was reported that Gantz would only meet with his Turkish counterpart, Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar. However, an update from the Israeli Ministry this morning said that Gantz will also hold a meeting with Turkey’s President, Recep Tayip Erdogan.
The meeting will be held in the afternoon at the presidential residence in Ankara, and will be the latest in a series of meetings between Erdogan and Israeli officials, notably President Isaac Herzog in March and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid last month.
Following a frosty decade, Israel and Turkey restored full diplomatic ties in August.
Joining Gantz on his visit are MoD Director General Maj.-Gen. (Ret.) Amir Eshel, Military Secretary Brig.-Gen. Yaki Dolf, and Director of the Middle East and North Africa Division in the MOD.
