“There is a famous saying: ‘He who seeks peace, must prepare for war.’ In order to prepare for war, and therefore in order to seek peace and achieve it, we need the best armies possible,” said Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, during a reception he hosted last night (Wednesday) for military chiefs-of-staff and high-ranking generals from 18 nations, at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

The military officials – including US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, military heads of Morocco, Greece, Cyprus, the Czech Repubic and Poland, and senior generals from the UAE, the UK, Canada and NATO, among others – are in Israel for a week-long conference on international operational innovation, hosted by the IDF.

According to the IDF statement, this first conference of its kind “enables the deepening of cooperation in the areas of strategy and defense, as well as for the expansion of in-depth mutual learning and international cooperation when developing and operating military capabilities.”

The conference includes professional workshops for the delegations surrounding the topic of innovation as well as an international conference on the field of operational innovation. They are led by IDF commanders and commanders from the various participating countries.

The week will conclude with an operational simulation led by the Israeli Ground Forces, with the participation of the Israeli Navy and Israeli Air Force. The simulation will “demonstrate innovative abilities on the battlefield and illustrate the operational concept of victory as well as the shifting challenges of the modern battlefield the IDF faces” said the IDF.

Avichay Adraee, IDF Spokesperson for Arab Media, said that the conference is “an additional milestone in strengthening the cooperation between the IDF and other countries worldwide,” aiming at “regional security and stability.”

The attendance of Lieutenant General Belkhir El Farouk, the Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR), has raised quite a bit of media attention in North African and Arab media.

“Lieutenant General Belkhir El Farouk, who is accompanied by a large military delegation, is making the trip at the instructions of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces,” noted the North Africa Post, which also mentioned that “On the sidelines of the Conference, talks and official meetings are scheduled between the Inspector General of the FAR and the Israeli Defense authorities.”
