A deal with Iran “will not buy immunity from the actions of the Mossad”, says organization’s chief

“An agreement will bring Iran closer to executing its nuclear plan. It is one of its main weaknesses,” said Mossad Director, Dadi Barnea

“Even in its weakened position, Iran has been leading a worldwide campaign to harm Jews and Israelis simply because they are Jewish. In the recent period of time, we have thwarted dozens of terrorist attacks,” said Mossad Director, David “Dadi” Barnea, at Reichman University’s conference on counter-terrorism this morning (Monday), in a lecture perhaps designated more for overseas ears than those in the Herzliya-based  university.

Barnea mentioned Iranian terror attack attempts against Israeli diplomats and businessmen in Cyprus, Columbia and Turkey. Referring to the nuclear talks, he said that they do not have a deterring effect on Iran.

“Terror activity is carried out and has been expanding to the US and Europe, all during the negotiations in Vienna. Brashly and fearlessly, attempts are being carried out to harm American officials on US soil, including a former National Security Advisor, regime opponents and human rights activists,” said Barnea.

The Mossad chief, who visited Washington, DC last week in an attempt to persuade the US establishment to refrain from signing the deal with Iran, said that he warned the US that a deal means an immediate 6 billion dollars to the terror regime, in addition to 90 billion in the first year alone. Mentioning the US as a target of Iranian terrorism was not coincidental.

“An agreement will bring Iran closer to executing its nuclear plan. It is one of its main weaknesses. It might be beneficial in the short run, but bad on the long run,” said Barnea.

“It is important for me to emphasize that we will not take part in this eye-shutting game. We rely on facts and know the Iranian vision,” concluded Barnea. “Therefore, even if an agreement is signed, it will not buy immunity from the actions of the Mossad.

“The Iranian leaders must be aware of the fact that using force against Israelis, directly or by proxies, will be met with a painful response.”

Shin Bet chief, Ronen Bar, spoke at the conference yesterday (Sunday) and addressed the Iran issue as well.

“Iran’s influence is apparent wherever there is terror – in the Palestinian arena, inside Israel and in the cyber arena. Iran is not just a nuclear problem – it is the fundamental problem of the Middle East,” said Bar.

Bar emphasized the cyber threat against Israel, as well as the inherent dangers posed by social media in encouraging violence and terror, especially among young people. “The power of the online network today is not only to reflect but also create consciousness,” he said. “Today’s uncontrolled world has occupied the space of the free world, which is suffering from a generational crisis and governance challenges.”
