American Winchester, the largest manufacturer of small arms ammunition for the United States Military, has won a large US Army contract to supply military ammunition worth no less than $145 million. Under the five-year contract, the company will produce and supply .38 caliber, .45 caliber and 9mm ammunition.

According to the most precise calculations, the contract provides for the supply of 700 million rounds of 9x19mm caliber ammunition, which is widely used in the Sig Sauer M320 and Beretta M92 pistols, although they could also be used for pistols such as the Sig Sauer P228 or types of submachine guns.

.38 rounds, used in revolvers that are no longer officially used in the army, are intended for special units whose activities are covert. The powerful .45 APC rounds may be used in obsolete M1911 pistols that are in stock and if used operationally.

This is the third significant ammunition supply contract that Winchester has won in recent months. At December 2021 and the beginning of January 2022, we reported on the IsraelDefense website that the company won a contract worth $13 million for the supply of 7.62 mm ammunition and a contract worth $20 million for the 6.8 mm ammunition for the Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) program.
