Spanish media reports that the country’s Ministry of Defense is facing a major acquisition of spike launchers and missiles made by the Israeli company Rafael. According to Infodefensa, that the Ministry of Defense intends to purchase 168 launchers and 1,680 spike LR2 missiles designed to replace the Tow missiles used by the Spanish army.

In February 2020, Israel Defense already reported that the Spanish army plans to convert about 60 M113 APCs to anti-tank platforms. Engineers at the center Armor Systems Maintenance (PCMASA) has already developed a prototype and Raphael's Spike missile launcher is among the number of candidates in this conversion process.

According to armyrecognition.com, the program is already in an advanced stage, awaiting the funding needed for its official launch. Both the Spanish Army (including the Army aviation) and Marine Corps have been using the Spike LR missile for 15 years.
