The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a drone was launched towards Hmeimim Air Base, which is being used by the Russian military, in Syria's Latakia province, and that a mobile Russian air defense system shot down the aircraft using a Pantsir-S missile, which is referred to by NATO as the SA-22.

A senior Russian officer, Rear Adm. Vadim Kulit, told Sputnik News from the Russian base that the drone was launched from Idlib province, and "The missile armament of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon system of the Russian airbase destroyed the air target at a distance from the airbase. There were no casualties or material damage as a result of the incident. Russian airbase Hmeimim is operating as planned."

Meanwhile, Lebanese news agency Al-Mayadeen reported that plumes of black smoke were seen billowing from Camp Victory, an American base outside of Baghdad where a U.S. military force is located. In recent months there have been increasing attacks on Camp Victory via rockets and unmanned aircraft.
