Israel Shipyards, a leading shipbuilding and repair company serving naval and commercial marine markets, announced Thursday that it has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Defense for the detailed design of the new Reshef-class combat vessel for the Israeli Navy. Under the agreement, Israel Shipyards will carry out the final stage before the production of the ship, including presentation of an engineering plan adapted to the needs of the Navy.

The advanced Reshef-class vessels will replace the Navy's Sa'ar 4.5-class vessels that have been in service for over 30 years. The new vessel is designed to successfully deal with new and evolving threats and challenges. Reshef-class vessels, which will be based on the Israel Shipyards S-72 design, will provide the Israeli Navy with the advanced capabilities needed in future combat, and assist in protecting Israel’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as well as the offshore oil and gas facilities within Israel’s territorial waters. All combat systems onboard the new ship will be products of Israel’s defense industry, according to Israel Shipyards.

The company's CEO, Eitan Zucker, said, “We are excited and proud to have reached this advanced stage in the development of the new ship, which will very soon assist in carrying out the missions and meeting the challenges faced by the Israeli Navy in protecting the country's maritime borders. We welcome the fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the Israeli Navy.”
