The Spanish Civil Guard has issued a tender, its third in a year and a half, for the supply of a minimum of 3,500 5.56x45mm caliber assault rifles worth about six million euros.

The Infodefensa website reported that the tender also includes the supply of rifle holders, cases with cleaning tools, facemasks, user manuals and 10,500 magazines, with delivery of the rifles and the other items during 2022 and 2023.

The tender is the third through the Civil Guard's Economic Affairs Headquarters in the last year and a half for the purchase of assault rifles. In February 2020, the headquarters declared a very similar tender void. That tender had a budget of more than 14 million euros for the purchase of 8,250 assault rifles. In March of this year, a tender for the supply of 7,050 rifles valued at close to 12 million euros was suspended. In November 2020, the Civil Guard completed a deal for acquisition of 630 rifles for one million euros, through the Army, for its units on missions abroad.

The Civil Guard is an armed police force dealing with internal security, border protection and maintaining order that also functions as a national intervention force.

Israel Defense reported last week that Israel's Emtan, a manufacturer of small arms and rifles for armies and law enforcement agencies, won a contract valued at about 2.5 million euros to supply 6,000 9x19mm Ramon pistols to the Civil Guard.

According to Infodefensa, the Civil Guard has also issued a tender for the purchase of a minimum of 30,000 pistol holsters, valued at 1.8 million euros, for its Beretta 92 FS pistols. This is despite the fact that the Civil Guard is acquiring the Israeli Ramon pistols to replace the Beretta pistols.
