Russia's Rostec to supply compact SR.3M assault rifles to foreign customer
The SR.3M, intended for elite troops, can be used for both short-range and long-range combat. The deal follows the company's completion of delivery of underwater rifles and pistols to a different foreign customer last month

Russia's Rostec State Corporation announced last week that it would supply modernized compact 9mm SR.3M assault rifles to an undisclosed foreign customer. The rifles that are equipped with a removable silencer and an optical sight are intended for Special Forces.
The statement said that the modernized version of the SR.3M is designed with a barrel length of only 136 mm for special SP5 and SP6 9x39 mm cartridges with muzzle velocity of 310 m/s. This makes the weapon compact and convenient in short-distance combat, namely in densely populated urban areas. The SR.3M is designed to engage targets protected with body armor as well as non-armored vehicles. The weight of the assault rifle with a silencer and a magazine for 30 rounds is 3.2 kg, according to the company.
A main feature of the assault rifle is its removable silencer, which allows it to be transformed from an assault rifle for short-range combat into a full-fledged sniper rifle in the field, capable of effectively hitting targets at distances of over 300 meters. The reliability and ease-of-use of the weapon, as well as the ability to install special equipment such as night and sniper sights, makes the weapon popular, Rostec said.
Last month, it was reported that Rostec completed delivery of 4.5 mm SPP-1M underwater pistols and 5.66 mm APS underwater assault rifles to an undisclosed foreign customer. The weapons were developed for Special Forces and combat divers. Ammunition was supplied to the customer together with the weapons. The weapons fire 4.5mm steel darts that are 120 mm long. The ammunition has a pointed conical head, with a special blunted tip. This design creates a cavity of air in front of the bullet when it moves underwater at high speeds, reducing water resistance and stabilizing the cartridge, according to the company.
Rostec says that the SPP-1M pistol is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 17 meters underwater or up to 20 meters above the surface, while the 5.66-mm APS rifle hits targets at a range of up to 30 meters underwater or up to 100m above the surface.
