The head of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen, made an official visit to Bahrain recently to discuss security matters and the tightening of cooperation between Israel and the Gulf states, Bahrain's news agency reported over the weekend.

Cohen met with the president of the National Security Agency, General Adel bin Khalifa Al Fadhel, and with the president of the Strategic Security Agency, Shaikh Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa. The sides discussed ways of boosting cooperation, regional developments and issues of common interest, according to the report.

Last month, the countries agreed on mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates to encourage travel between the countries. Russian website Sputnik News reported that there were talks on the establishment of a defense alliance between Israel, Bahrain, the UAE and Saudi Arabia in response to a "growing Iranian threat" in the Middle East.
