Greece and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement under which Greece will loan Saudi Arabia a Patriot missile battery to defend its energy facilities, which serve as targets for attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met this week with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhain in Riyadh, and they signed the agreement as well as economic agreements. The Greek foreign minister said the loan was his country's contribution to the security of the energy sources for the West.

Reuters reported that Yemen's Houthis have stepped up drone attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia in recent weeks. Patriot missiles are intended mainly to intercept high-altitude ballistic missiles, the type of threat that Saudi Arabia is dealing with.
