BAE Systems has chosen a turret made by Israel's Elbit, the UT30 Mk2, for the prototype it is offering for the OMFV program of the US Army. The OMFV program is for replacement of the M-2 Bradley fighting vehicle. The program is part of the bigger Next Generation Combat Vehicle program, or NGCV in short.

It is a U.S. initiative launched in June 2018 that is aimed, as mentioned, at replacing the Bradley from the 1980s. Like every American initiative for weapon development, it involves a lot of money (a whole lot of money. Hundreds of millions of dollars just to develop a prototype) and a lot of time. Years.

For Israel, it is one of the most important programs for the IDF's future. Why? Because if the IDF wants to replace its armored vehicles, it needs to do so with American money (unlike the U.S., in Israel there is little money for such a procurement). Therefore every Israeli technology that goes into the American production line will benefit the IDF in the future.

It should be mentioned that the various developments that were presented in Israel under the "Carmel" project (demonstrating technologies for future armored vehicles) are offered to the Americans in the various programs under the NGCV project, with the same objective – to put Israeli technologies into the American production line, and buy the final product with American aid money.
