Chinese security services concerned about Syria's Turkistan Islamic Party

According to a report online, a Chinese delegation visited Syria's Idlib governorate a number of weeks ago to collect intelligence on the Turkistan Islamic Party whose proxy is present in Xinjiang Province in China

A Chinese delegation visited Idlib governorate a few weeks ago to meet with Mohammed Natouf, the first governor in the region since the Syrian regime reoccupied the southern part of the province in 2019. According to a report by Intelligence Online, Beijing sent a businessman from the medical industry to Syrian President Bashar Assad regarding the rehabilitation of the health sector. Beijing is also reconstructing the water facilities in the area. According to the report, the visit also had a security-related component.

During the visit, security officers from the Chinese delegation collected information about the Turkistan Islamic Party, whose proxy is present in Xinjiang Province in China. It was the first time that China's Ministry of State Security, the Guoanbu, which never cut its ties with the security services in Damascus, traveled outside of the Syrian capital since 2011.
