The Israeli-Indian joint venture KRAS delivered this week the first sections of India's medium-range surface-to-air missile made jointly by the Kalyani Group and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The missile is manufactured at the KRAS plant located near Hyderabad airport.

The manufacturing company is committed to produce 1,000 ground-to-air missile kits for India's Air Force and Navy. The missile kits will be delivered to India's state-run defense company BDL for assembly and final integration of the finished product. The Kalyani group manufactures long-range artillery, armored vehicles and various other weapon systems, and is capable of manufacturing ground-to-air missiles.

Rafael's Executive Vice President Pinhas Yungman, director of the missile division, said that the Indian-Israeli jointly manufactured missile systems reflect the company’s commitment to indigenous manufacturing of defense equipment in India. The Defense Star website reported that a center was already established to support the knowledge, technologies, engineering and research for manufacturing of the missiles.

In a ceremony marking the launch of the joint product, the Indian speakers praised the deep cooperation between India and Israel in the field of defense and strategy, and the combination of Rafael's technologies with those of India's Kalyani group.
