Denmark’s defense procurement agency FMI is procuring Spike LR 2 anti-tank guided missile systems from Eurospike for the reconnaissance and infantry forces of two Danish combat battalions, according to the Esut.de website. The procurement is via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). Eurospike is a joint venture between Germany's Diehl Defense and Rheinmetall Electronics and Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The weapon system is largely manufactured by the German parent companies Diehl and Rheinmetall with subcontractors in Europe.

Starting this year, the two battalions will be equipped with launchers and guided missiles as well as training and simulation equipment over a period of five years. Some of the systems will be integrated into remote-controlled Protector weapon stations, manufactured by Kongsberg, on Eagle V and Piranha V wheeled armored vehicles that are about to enter service, the report said.

By procuring the missiles through the NSPA, Denmark has secured fast delivery, a good price and good availability of the weapon system. The country will join 14 NATO member states using compatible Spike LR or LR 2 systems. These include the Baltic countries, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Italy. This means that in future operations in and outside Europe, the Danish Army can operate together with allies using the same system with joint logistical support, according to the report.
