The Defence Blog website reported that the Ukrainian Marines will receive a batch of 60 amphibious BTR-4 wheeled armored personnel carriers this year. The report cited an announcement by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau.

According to the report, the new amphibious vehicle will have enhanced lethality, survivability and maneuverability compared to the basic BTR-4, and be capable of carrying out sea operations and negotiating water obstacles without any configuration changes.

In addition, the BTR-4EM will possess ground mobility and speed similar to the BTR-3 and BTR-4 combat vehicles during sustained operations ashore and have the capability to provide direct fire support to dismounted infantry. The vehicle is expected to support expeditionary mobility capability and capacity with balanced levels of performance, protection and payload. Both sea and land performance are important capabilities for the Marines as they want to execute their missions quickly and effectively, the report said.
