Over the weekend, Israel's Defense Ministry completed delivery of Iron Dome air defense systems to the U.S. Army under an agreement between the two countries, providing the second of two batteries. The systems will be employed in the defense of U.S. troops against a variety of ballistic and aerial threats.

The United States and Israel signed the agreement in August 2019 for the provision of two Iron Dome batteries. The first was delivered in September and is already being prepared for operational use. The second was also delivered in accordance with the project schedule.

The delivery was made by the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), part of the Defense Ministry's Directorate of Defense Research and Development.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz said, "The delivery of the Iron Dome to the U.S. Army once again demonstrates the close relations between the Israel Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Department of Defense, the effectiveness of the system against various threats, and the excellent technological capabilities of Israeli industries. I am confident that the system will assist the U.S. Army in protecting American troops from ballistic and airborne threats as well as from developing threats in the areas where U.S. troops are deployed on various missions."

The Iron Dome system was developed and manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Its MMR radar was developed by ELTA, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), while the command and control system was developed by mPrest. The Iron Dome system is an integral part of Israel’s multi-layered defense array developed by the IMDO. The defense array also includes the David’s Sling, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 weapon systems.
