The IDF Chief of Staff, Lieut. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, was administered the first of two required doses of the coronavirus vaccine today (Sunday). The chief of staff was the first person in the IDF to be administered the vaccine, and his vaccination marked the start of the IDF's vaccination campaign, with the operation led by the Medical Corps to begin at the beginning of next week.

The Chief of Staff, Lieut. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, said, "During the last year, the IDF has been doing everything in its ability to maintain operational fitness and functional continuity that will enable it to carry out its missions while protecting the health of those serving in the IDF. The vaccination operation that will begin in the coming days is truly good news that promotes the return to normal in the State of Israel and the IDF. I call on all IDF commanders and soldiers to be vaccinated and serve as an example to others on this important topic as well."

In the framework of the operation, the IDF Technological and Logistics Directorate will be responsible for operating 17 regional facilities across the country that will be opened gradually and in accordance with the progress of the operation. Starting from today, the IDF's united supply center will start work on organizing and packing medical equipment that will be issued to the regional facilities.

Each facility will have a staff of medics who will be responsible for administering the vaccine, a certified nurse who will supervise the process, a medical team that will provide first aid if needed, and administrative workers who will be responsible for organization of the facility and processing the soldiers who arrive to be vaccinated. About three weeks after the first dose, the person being vaccinated will receive an invitation via his or her mobile phone to receive another dose. About a week after the second dose, the person will be designated as fully vaccinated.
