A delegation from the IDF Home Front Command and the Israeli Foreign Ministry is providing assistance to cities in northwestern Honduras that were hit hard by the hurricanes that struck the Central American country, together with senior Honduran officials. The Honduran government requested the assistance of the Home Front Command in light of the accumulated knowledge of the State of Israel, and specifically that of the Home Front Command, in dealing with emergency situations.

On the instructions of Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, the delegation arrived in Honduras on Wednesday. As part of the assistance, the delegation is using professional technological equipment developed by the State of Israel in recent years. The delegation mapped the disaster areas, and its operations are focused on the cities that were hit the hardest.

The delegation is assisting the population in the areas that were hit, shoulder to shoulder with local volunteers while following regulations to protect themselves from the coronavirus. The Foreign Ministry's representative in the delegation, Tal Yitzhakov, said "The Israeli aid delegation has been concentrating its efforts to assist residents of the area to return to their daily routine after being struck by the hurricane, as well as training the Honduran emergency troops in dealing with disaster situations."

The Commanding Officer of the National Rescue Unit, Col. (res.) Golan Vach, said "The members of the delegation are reservists, experts in their fields with experience from similar situations that they have dealt with around the world in recent years. Therefore, they perform their activities while equipped with technological gear in order to give their best response in their aid mission. The State of Israel and the Home Front Command will continue to lend a hand to any country that needs our help anywhere in the world."
