Montenegro takes delivery of Oshkosh tactical vehicles with Elbit weapon stations
The shipment is part of a deal to provide 30 joint light tactical vehicles to the Balkan country's military
The Montenegro Ministry of Defense announced last week that the first Joint Light Tactical Vehicles manufactured by American company Oshkosh were delivered to Montenegro. This delivery is part of a $803.9 million deal to provide joint light tactical vehicles (JLTVs) to the militaries of the U.S. and Montenegro. Under this contract, the Southeastern European country will receive 30 JLTVs.
The Army Recognition website notes that the JLTVs for the Montenegrin Armed Forces will be equipped with Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) manufactured by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. In December 2019, Elbit Systems was awarded a contract of approximately $35 million to supply the armed forces with RCWS for the Oshkosh 4x4 JLTVs.
The JLTV is equipped with an advanced crew protection system that offers a protection level similar to a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle. The JLTV’s armored capsule is scalable and can accept multiple armor configurations to protect troops from IEDs and today’s other prevalent battlefield threats. It can be fitted with a wide range of remote-controlled weapon stations or ring mount 7.62 or 12.7mm machine gun.
