Hungarian financial institutions and communications infrastructure were hit last Thursday by a cyberattack that originated from computer networks in Russia, China and Vietnam. The country's large communications company Magyar Telecom announced that the attack was based on denial of service (DoS), with hackers trying to take over communications networks by flooding them with a huge amount of traffic in order to paralyze them.

Reuters reported that it was the most serious cyberattack that Hungary had ever experienced. Magyar Telecom announced that Russian, Chinese and Vietnamese hackers tried to attack Hungarian institutions including the company's networks. The cyberattack was carried out in several waves and caused the temporary suspension of operations at a number of financial institutions and halted services of Magyar Telecom in a number of areas in Budapest before it was repelled by the company.
