US-Israel center offers up to $10 million in funding for ambitious energy cybersecurity project
Commercial companies, research institutes and universities from both countries are invited to form consortia and submit bids

Following a joint decision by the Israeli and US governments to strengthen cooperation on cyber-related technologies, the US-Israel Energy Center has set up a project to develop advanced and innovative solutions for energy infrastructure cybersecurity.
The center, whose official name is The U.S.-Israel Center of Excellence in Energy, Engineering and Water Technology, has invited commercial companies, research institutes and universities from both countries to form consortia and submit bids for the project.
The maximum award for the winning consortium is $6 million for a period of 3 years. The program may be extended for up to 2 additional years for a total of 5 years, with a maximum total award of $10 million. Awardees are required to bear 50 percent of the cost of their project.
The program is being managed by the Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation, which works to encourage and facilitate cooperation between U.S. and Israeli companies in a wide range of technology sectors and offers funding to selected projects.
Both Israel and the US are leading countries in the field of cybersecurity, with advanced technologies and products for protecting critical infrastructure such as energy facilities. The increasing number and sophistication of cyberattacks in recent months has once again focused attention on the need to reinforce the defenses of such important national infrastructure.
Thus, the ambitious program managed by the BIRD Foundation is seen as an opportunity for entrepreneurs, companies and universities to conduct research and develop advanced solutions.
To provide an overview of the program's guidelines and requirements, the BIRD Foundation is to host a one-hour webinar on September 10. The "Cyber Security for Energy Infrastructure" event is will be held at 7pm in Israel, Noon Eastern Standard Time and 9AM Pacific Standard Time.
