Units of the coalition force led by the US military left the Taji base in Iraq this morning and handed the base over to the security forces of Iraq. The base is 20 kilometers north of Baghdad. Reuters reported that the base was recently the target of rocket attacks by militias supported by Iran.

The coalition announced that the withdrawal from Taji base is part of a long-term plan in coordination with the Baghdad government. Two thousand soldiers from the coalition and the US served recently at the base. In the past, Washington had 5,000 troops in Iraq while other members of the coalition had 2,500 in the country.

Several days ago President Trump once again promised to withdraw American troops from Iraq. The Iraqi parliament recently voted in favor of the departure of all foreign forces from the country, including coalition and US troops.
