After foiling an attempt to plant explosive devices near the border fence on the Golan Heights, the IDF carried out a series of attacks against the Syrian military overnight.

The IDF confirmed the strikes shortly after the state-run Syrian news agency reported that its air defense systems were used against targets in southwest Damascus and in Kuneitra adjacent to the border.

In an official statement, the IDF said that fighter planes, attack helicopters and other IDF aircraft attacked Syrian military targets in southern Syria in response to the planting of explosive devices that was thwarted in the southern Golan Heights. The targets included observation posts, intelligence collection systems, antiaircraft artillery, and command and control facilities in Syrian military bases. The IDF considers the Syrian regime responsible for every action carried out in its territory, and will continue to act with determination against every violation of the sovereignty of the state of Israel, the statement said.

The strikes came less than a day after the IDF foiled the attempt by four terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices under the cover of darkness.

The incident began when IDF troops monitoring the area identified several people near the fence. Several hours later, the four terrorists, several of whom were armed, were spotted approaching the fence, and then planting explosives.

The IDF rushed forces to the scene and fired on the squad from the ground and from the air, killing the terrorists. The IDF released a video of the incident.

Following the incident, weapons and a pack containing several explosive devices ready for use were found at the scene just 25 meters from the border fence. The devices were neutralized.

Reports in Israel said it was not immediately clear which group was responsible.

Meanwhile, tension continued on the Lebanese border in the aftermath of the thwarted infiltration by a Hezbollah terror squad last week. Unlike the event on the Syrian border, the IDF did not immediately retaliate or release a video of that incident.
