Israel's public broadcasting station reported on the evening of April 27 that the airstrike in Damascus at about 5am that day is believed to have targeted advanced Iranian weapons that Tehran very recently transferred to the Syrian regime. The source of the information was not specified.

The report said that the frequency of the attacks attributed to Israel during the previous 20 days in Syria – three against Iranian targets, and one against Hizballah targets - indicates that Iran is increasing its military involvement in the country.

Reports in the hours after the attack said that pro-Iranian militias were the target.
