Following a barrage of rocket fire by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization aimed at Israeli territory yesterday, the IDF today (Monday) struck a number of PIJ targets south of Damascus, Syria, and across the Gaza Strip. According to reports, a number of PIJ members were killed in the Syria strike.

According to official IDF statements, “A PIJ site that is a significant anchor of the PIJ in Syria was struck in the Jadaliyya area. The PIJ uses the site for the research and development of weapons, while adapting them for manufacturing in Gaza and locally in Syria.”

The IDF’s strikes in Gaza included targets such as subterranean infrastructure and storage sites used in missile manufacturing in Rafah; a PIJ missile-firing training center in Khan Yunes; and a training center in Beit Lahia.

The IDF Home Front Command issued instructions to cancel school classes today in several towns. Some roads near the Gaza border fence will also be closed.

The PIJ rocket fire came following the killing of two of its members on Sunday by the IDF. It appears that an IDF force saw the two approaching the border fence through southern Gaza, and placing a bomb. The IDF soldiers then opened fire, and according to Palestinian sources, the two were killed.
