Iran has unveiled the a new domestically-built drone dubbed “Kian,” which it said can locate and attack targets far beyond the country’s borders with high precision.

Iran’s Air Defense Force Commander, Brig. Gen. Alireza Sabahifard, displayed the UAV at a ceremony in Tehran on Sunday, saying it can fly more than 1,000 km (620 miles) and climb to an altitude of 5,000 meters (15,000 feet).

The drone comes in two models capable of “surveillance and reconnaissance missions and continuous flight for precision missions,” state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying on Sunday.

Sabahifard said the aircraft was designed, produced and tested by experts of the Iranian air defense force within about a year.

“This unmanned aircraft is capable of hitting targets far from the country's borders and undertaking air defense from the enemy’s territory,” Sabahifard said.
