Israel Strikes Underground Hamas Target in Response to Rocket Fire

The Israeli air force struck Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip early Thursday morning in response to a rocket launch toward Israeli border communities.

Earlier, the IDF confirmed that a rocket had been fired from Gaza shortly after midnight, saying it was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.

The military said in a statement that fighter jets “attacked an underground terror infrastructure on a military compound belonging to the Hamas terror group in the southern Gaza Strip. The attack was carried out in response to the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip earlier in the night.”

The rocket is the first to be launched at Israel since a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two sides in early May.

“The IDF will continue to act against any attempt to harm Israeli civilians and considers the terrorist organization Hamas responsible for everything that is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip,” the military added.
