Israeli Defense Ministry Delegation Visits Uganda

The Head of IMOD’s SIBAT Directorate, Brig. Gen. (ret.) Michel Ben Baruch, met with Minister of State of Defense Charles Okello Engola to discuss the defense cooperation between the two states

A report by Soft Power News reveals that a delegation of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, led by the Head of IMOD’s International Defense Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT) Brig. Gen. (ret.) Michel Ben Baruch, recently visited Uganda.

According to the report, the two parties reaffirmed their commitment to “step-up defense cooperation in order to safeguard peace and security.” Among the issues discussed during the visit were collaboration in the fight against terrorism and further professionalization of the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Force (UPDF).

The meeting was attended by senior Ugandan defense officials, including the Minister of State for Defense, Col. (ret.) Charles Okello Engola; the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Rosette Byengoma; the UPDF Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi; and the Deputy Commander of the Air Force, Maj. Gen. Gervase Mugyenyi.

According to a recent report published by the Israeli MoD, only 2% of Israel’s defense exports in 2018 went to Africa.
