Israel’s Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), also known as the Homa Administration of the Defense Ministry, together with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), successfully completed a series of interception tests with the David's Sling weapon system.

“The success of the series constitutes an important milestone in the State of Israel's operational ability to defend itself against existing and future threats in the arena,” the Israeli MoD said in a statement.

The experiments were carried out by Rafael at a test site in southern Israel. During the trials, advanced capabilities of the David’s Sling missile system were tested in a new version developed for a number of scenarios to simulate future threats the system may face during a confrontation.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “I welcome the successful David’s Sling tests, which is in addition to the successful test we recently completed with Arrow 3. Israel continues to be a global pioneer in developing missile defense systems. I'd like to express our special appreciation to our ally and partner the United States in promoting this important security project.”

The series was attended by representatives of the MDA and other companies who are involved in the development of the system.

David’s Sling, also known as “Magic Wand,” became operational in April 2017 and is designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets, as well as cruise missiles fired with ranges of 40 to 300 km.

The weapon system is a central component of a multi-tiered defense system, which also includes the Iron Dome, Arrow 2, and Arrow 3.

David’s Sling is a joint Israeli-US project, with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems collaborating with US defense contractor Raytheon. Other components of the system were developed by Elta – a subdivision of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) – which developed the system's radar, and the Elisra subdivision of Elbit Systems, which developed the command and control mechanisms.
