The US command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20) has arrived at the Israeli port of Haifa to take part in the joint US–Israeli military exercise "Juniper Cobra 2018."

The US Navy's Sixth Fleet, the operational unit of US Naval Forces Europe, is maintaining close cooperation with the IDF.

According to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, about half of the 500 crewmembers aboard the ship are senior officers within the Sixth Fleet scheduled to participate in the exercise.

"Their participation in the exercise, which highlights their commitment to the strategic relationship between the IDF and the US military, is part of the joint effort to maintain stability and security in the region," the IDF said in a statement.
