Romanian Defense Minister Visited Several Israeli Defense Industries

Defense Minister Mihai Fifor met on Tuesday with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman and visited several of Israel's leading defense companies, including Rafael, Elbit Systems, IMI Systems, IAI, and IWI

Romanian Defense Minister Mihai Fifor met on Tuesday with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman, to discuss military cooperation, as well as aspects regarding the international security situation, investingromania reported.

During his visit to Israel, the defense minister visited several companies, including Rafael, Elbit Systems, IMI Systems, IAI, and IWI, where discussions and presentations took place related to industrial cooperation possibilities in the military field.

It should be noted that American Aegis Ashore missile defense systems are located in Romania, making it a major target in any future confrontation with Russia. Therefore, Romania invests considerable funds in preparing for such a scenario.

According to the report, military ties between the two states have been consolidated in the last years, mainly focusing on strategic dialogue, instruction and training activities of the armed forces, and also on active cooperation in endowment, within the programs developed by the Romanian Army.

A report by evz.ro adds that the two defense ministers also discussed the establishment of a training program for Romanian military doctors at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.

Prior to the Defense Minister's visit, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila met with Ambassador of the State of Israel Tamar Samash. The two discussed bilateral relations, as well as the progress of Romania's National Museum of Jewish History and the Holocaust, agerpres.ro reported.

According to the report, "the two officials emphasis on diversifying the economic and sectorial cooperation, in the prospect of resuming the political dialogue on a governmental level, as well as the possibility of concluding a Romanian-Israeli partnership in the area of new technologies, in sectors such as energy, sustainable agriculture, cybersecurity and entrepreneurial innovations for high-tech areas."

It is possible that the warming relations with Romania are part of a strategic effort by the Israeli Foreign Ministry to prevent a "domino" effect following the controversial Polish "Holocaust bill."
