In 2015, the Royal Bahrain Naval Force awarded Leonardo a contract to upgrade six vessels. Earlier this week, Leonardo delivered the first, fully-upgraded Al Manama-class ship.

The upgraded vessel is an FPB 62-class corvette, designed to perform anti-surface warfare with self-defense anti-air warfare capability and secondary anti-submarine warfare using a helicopter. The upgrade includes a new weapon control system, training services, and logistics.
