Russia Sends More T-90 Tanks to Syrian Army

The Kremlin is preparing for the day after ISIS and is already beginning to rebuild the Syrian army

The Syrian army has taken delivery of dozen of Russian-made T-90A main battle tanks in recent months.

According to Army Recognition, the main armament of the T-90A MBT consists of one 125mm 2A46M-5 smoothbore gun which can fire 9M119M laser-guided anti-tank missiles. The T-90A is fitted with Kontakt-5 ERA third-generation explosive reactive armor, as well as a TShU1-7 Shtora-1 countermeasures system.

IHS Jane's provides further technical details about the T-90. The tank also includes a UDP T05BV-1 remotely operated weapon station, a Falcon Eye panoramic commander's sight capable of identifying a tank at a range of up to 5,000 m, a 1V528-2 fire-control computer, a Remeshok identification friend or foe (IFF) system, and more.
