UAE Buys Laser-Guided Bombs, Artillery Shells; Upgrades Mirage Fleet

The United Arab Emirates signs billions of dollars worth of military deals at Dubai Airshow 2017

The United Arab Emirates’ military is buying GBU-10 and GBU-12 Paveway laser-guided bomb kits from Raytheon in a deal worth $684.4 million, Reuters reported on Tuesday. The deals were announced by the UAE at the Dubai Airshow.

The UAE Armed Forces also signed a deal with Rheinmetall to purchase 35mm artillery shells for Air Defense, according to a report on Khaleej Times. Another contract for the purchase of MK-82 and MK-84 bombs was signed with Turkey's Chemical and Mechanical Industries Corporation.

The list goes on to include a contract with Dassault and Thales to upgrade UAE's Mirage 2000-9 aircraft. Another contract was awarded to Iomax USA for modernization and provision of maintenance services for Air Tractor Aircraft. CAE Maritime Middle East will provide the UAE with a remotely-controlled system for training centers.

The Belarus-based Beltech Export will provide the UAE with maintenance services and rehabilitation of radar systems. One of the biggest contracts was awarded to the UAE-based C4 Advanced Solutions for providing telecommunication and information technology services with two-year of logistical support.
