The US Army has disclosed the companies that are likely to compete in its Air Soldier Common Helmet Mounted Display (CHMD) requirement. According to IHS Jane's, the companies include Elbit Systems, BAE, and Thales.

"This specification defines the requirements for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase for the Common Helmet Mounted Display (CHMD). The CHMD is an advanced, see-through, high-definition, digital helmet mounted display (HMD) to support all Army Rotary Wing platforms (except the AH-64D). The display is intended to replace the current Heads Up Display (HUD). The display will be integrated onto a Rotary Wing Helmet (RWH) HGU-56/P modified to include a magnetic head tracker and other head borne Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) equipment," the Army specified.

The HGU-56/P RWH is manufactured by the Gentex Corporation. According to the RFP, the Army plans to acquire 1825 such helmets over a five-year stretch.
