Indian Navy Wants to Replace its Barak-1 System

The Indian Navy has recently issued a global request for information (RFI) to produce vertical short-range surface-to-air missiles (SAM) system to replace Israeli barak-1 air defense system from onboard frontline Indian Navy ships, according to a report on idrw.org. The last date for submission is April 30, 2017.

The RFI specified a need for a vertically launched system with 3600 coverage to engage hostile targets at Mach 3. Vendors also have been asked to provide if their missile systems will be able to integrate and work with the current network of sensors and radars.

The potential list of candidates includes MDBA, Thales, Saab, KBP, Raytheon, Doosan, and the Israeli companies IAI and Rafael.
