On January 16, joint unit of the Strategic Missile Forces and Aerospace Forces launched the Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile, reports the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense.
The Topol-M, also known as RS-12M, was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. The missile's warhead has engaged the conditional target located at the Kamchatka range.
According to the Russian MoD, the goal of the launch was to check the missile's flight tactic characteristics. (And, of course, to flex its muscles vis-à-vis the United States).
Weighing 45 tons, the Topol-M is a cold-launched, three-stage, solid-propellant, silo-based or road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missile, with a maximum range of 10,500 km.
