Israeli Development: In a state of engine failure – additional flight time to prepare for an emergency landing

The system was designed for several aviation uses, foremost civilian light -commercial aviation, UAVs and others, enabling flight envelope at 6 operation modes, in a state of engine failure – additional flight time to prepare for an emergency landing.

The system was designed by Ashot Ashkelon, which specializes in developing and manufacturing technological components and relays for aviation and defense and the Italian company Efesto, which specializes in developing and manufacturing electronic controls, and the company CFM Air, which specializes in developing and manufacturing light planes. The company’s chief test pilot is astronaut Maurizio Cheli, who trained together with the late Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, and who is also a fighter pilot in the Italian Air Force and develops planes and aerial platforms.

The HPS is designed, at first stage, to come with an adaptor kit for ROTAX 914, 912 engines, which provides exceptional benefits for the light aviation, recreational and unmanned aircraft industry.

Some of the main benefits of the Hybrid Propulsion System are a significant additional power as a result of an extra (electric) motor for both takeoff and climbing rate, and a significant safety element in case of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) failure by providing extra flight time using the electric motor, also as a replacement for the Safety Parachute. In additiona, there is the thrust reversal mode for propellers using the electric motor, which makes it possible to stop quickly in order to shorten landing path and extend the lifespan of the brakes, and the ability to charge the batteries and save energy.

The new Hybrid Propulsion System is supplied as a kit composed of a new gearbox with integrated clutch, a new propeller shaft, a light electric motor, DC/AC Power converter and control system and a lithium battery power pack.
