Cleared for publication: IDF operated for the destruction of the remnants of a tunnel near the border fence between the Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, a "tail" of a tunnel, that survived a destruction during Operation Protective Edge, was discovered a few weeks ago in the southern community of Nahal Oz. Combat Engineers that were called to the scene were surprised to find that what was considered at first as a "tail" led to an entire tunnel. After a few days in which the force worked with determination on enemy territory, the tunnel was neutralized.

The IDF spokesperson said that the force worked under secrecy for security reasons. The route of the tunnel was under continuous control of the IDF prior to the destruction. The IDF force operated on Israeli territory, near the border fence. During the operation, a number of old weapons were found. Southern Command forces continue to consolidate and strengthen the protection in the area.

The IDF believes that the lesson of Operation Protective Edge for Hamas is to return as soon as possible to excavating tunnels.
