Record Number of Israeli Exhibitors at Eurosatory 2018

The Eurosatory Defense & Security International Exhibition, the world's largest and most important exhibition for land and airland weapon systems, was held in Paris this week. This year, the Defense Export & Defense Cooperation (SIBAT) Division of the Israel Ministry of Defense has produced one of the largest national pavilions presented at the exhibition. The Israeli pavilion presented fifty-two large and small Israeli industries.

IAI Signs $150M Contract for National SIGINT, EW System with European Customer

Egypt: Al-Sisi Appoints New Defense Minister

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday appointed Mohamed Zaki, commander of the country’s Republican Guard, as defense minister, replacing Sedki Sobhi, who has held the post for more than four years.

Earlier this month, al-Sisi himself was sworn in for his second term as president after winning elections in March. In January, the Egyptian President ratified a decision to promote Zaki from major general to lieutenant general.

The EU Launches €13 billion European Defense Fund

In an effort to strengthen the European Union's role as a security and defense provider, the European Commission announced the launch of a €13 billion European Defense Fund, which will provide the financial firepower for cross-border investments in advanced and interoperable technology and equipment in areas such as encrypted software and drone technology.

IDF paratroopers participated for the first time in the US-led Swift Response military exercise which took place this month in Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Organized by the US European Command (EUCOM), Swift Response featured 2,300 troops from seven nations, including Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Germany Approves Heron TP Deal

Germany's parliamentary budget committee on Wednesday approved a €1 billion ($1.17 billion) deal to lease Heron-TP unmanned air vehicles manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The approval puts an end to a long-running saga that has seen protests from rival bidders and politicians opposed to the acquisition of the potentially-armed UAVs.

Eurosatory 2018: Aeronautics, Verint Present Intelligence Gathering UAV

Israel-based Aeronautics presented the product of its cooperative alliance with the Israeli intelligence systems specialist Verint at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris: a new intelligence gathering UAV.

The UAV mockup presented at the exhibition features a transparent envelope, which unveils the intelligence collection systems installed close to the nose for the first time.
