Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport will start delivering S-400 air defense missile systems to Turkey next year, CEO Alexander Mikheev told reporters on Tuesday.

Russia and Turkey signed a loan agreement on the sale of the S-400s to Ankara back in 2017, causing a backlash from the US that threatened to impose sanctions against Turkey if the latter proceeded with the agreement.

"The contract is implemented within the agreed time limits. In 2019 we will start implementing the contract," Mikheev said.

The S-400 Triumf system is a next-generation mobile air defense system, capable of destroying aerial targets at a range of up to 400 kilometers (almost 250 miles).
