Working Together to Face the Threats

The NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC) located in Crete hosted a conference this week on dealing with weapons of mass destruction.

The conference, which was jointly initiated and led by Greece and Israel, was attended by some 100 participants from different countries, including nine representatives from Israel.

The Israeli delegations included IDF attaché in Greece and Cyprus, Col. Zvika Shahar; two Navy officers, Avi Level and Amichai Rachamim; two Foreign Ministry officials, Tal Gat and Shai Maoz-Friedman; three representatives of the Israeli defense industries, Dr. Natalie Friedman, Shani Maor and Gabi Horowitz; and Brig. Gen. (res.) Dr. Ephraim Lapid of Bar-Ilan University.

The conference discussed various aspects of the issue, from strategy and policy, through international cooperation, to intelligence and operations. A special emphasis was given to technological solutions for monitoring threats at sea.
