Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman is visiting Washington DC for high-level meetings with top US officials. The minister held a meeting at the White House with National Security Adviser John Bolton, which was also attended by Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt. Lieberman then met with Jared Kushner, Senior Adviser to President Trump.

"John Bolton is a loyal friend of the State of Israel, [and he] is very familiar with the Iranian threat," Lieberman said. "We discussed this as well as the complex and sensitive situation in Syria. I am glad that we and the Americans see eye to eye on the situation in the Middle East and thank the government for their support of Israel."

Defense Minister Lieberman presented Bolton with a characterization of him ripping the United Nations resolution comparing Zionism and Racism. Bolton led the campaign to cancel the resolution when he served as US Ambassador to the UN.

Later, Lieberman was welcomed for an official visit to the Pentagon. He met with his counterpart, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, as well as with the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Joseph Dunford. During the meeting, they discussed recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the Iranian entrenchment in Syria.

"I would like to express our great appreciation of the cooperation and distinctive assistance that you grant to the State of Israel," Lieberman told Secretary Mattis. "We greatly appreciate President Trump's decision to move the American Embassy to Jerusalem. The greatest threat to stability in the Middle East, and [elsewhere], is the Iranian attempt to disturb the stability in Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and of course its nuclear ambitions. I hope that we will translate the results of this meeting into significant steps on the ground."

Lieberman began his visit to Washington on Wednesday with a visit to the US Senate. He met with members of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, whom he thanked for their support in preserving Israel's qualitative military edge and especially for their assistance with the missile defense program.

"Congress has always stood by Israel during the most sensitive of scenarios, and I'm convinced we will continue to receive their full assistance and support in the near future," he said in a statement.
