Iran, Russia, Syria, Iraq Held Intelligence Committee Meeting

Iran, Russia, Syria, and Iraq held a quartet intelligence committee meeting in Baghdad last Thursday, the Mehr news agency reported. The meeting was primarily aimed at sharing intelligence in the campaign against terrorism.

Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami, who represented Iran at the meeting, said his country attaches great importance to efforts in fighting terrorism.

Hatami said Tehran, Moscow, Baghdad, and Damascus emerged as the strong force against ISIS, which had occupied large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria. "The coalition which was formed by Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Russia based on the determination of the four countries’ top officials played a serious and effective role in defeating ISIS," he explained.

The meeting came in the wake of the joint missile attack by the US, the UK, and France on suspected chemical weapons facilities in Syria, as well as the US efforts to assemble an Arab force led by Saudi Arabia in Syria that would replace the US military presence there.
