Czech Defense Minister Karla Slechtova has ordered a full review of an unsigned CZK3.6 billion (USD 173 million) contract for eight IAI ELTA Systems ELM-2084 multi-mission radar (MMR) units selected by the Ministry of Defense on December 14, 2016.

According to a report by IHS Jane's, IAI ELTA Systems was selected by Slechtova's predecessor, former defense minister Martin Stropnicky, to fulfill an urgent requirement for a 3D mobile air defense radar (MADR) for the air defense element of the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR).

"I have non-publicly available information that has led me to conclude that I must take additional steps which include determining whether the [ELM-2084] radar is interoperable with the NATO air defense architecture; to have legal experts analyze the details of the contract; and to request an analysis of the contract from the [Czech] Foreign Ministry," Slechtova said.

The ekonom website adds that the review could be related to the government changes in the Czech Republic. The website notes that the new defense minister may want to postpone the signing of the contract until the new government gains more confidence.
