According to a report by Babak Taghvaee, Iran has planned to extensively cut the budgets of its Army, Navy, Air Defense, and Air Force, and instead increase the budget of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Basij force in particular, in the fiscal year 2018. Iran's defense budget is estimated at between $11 and $13 billion per year.

According to the publication, Iran will invest less in platforms such as aircraft, tanks, and combat ships, and more in funding proxy terrorist groups via the IRGC. Tasnim News adds that the country's ballistic missile program was also a top priority in the 2018 budget.

The isna.ir website reports that out of the 400 trillion Rial ($11.2 billion) budget, about 267 trillion will go to the Revolutionary Guards. The detailed proposed budget can be found on ilna.ir.
